If you haven’t already resorted to TikTok as a form of entertainment during quarantine then honestly, kudos to you! The general first impressions of TikTok usually always fall along the lines of ‘cringey’, ‘basic’, ‘vain’, ‘a waste of time’ — and yes, this is often true but hey, do you really have anything better to do? Even if you actually have better things to do, TikTok is undeniably fun, a way to kill time and it can also get really creative. Here are some TikTok challenges that pretty much everyone on TikTok has been doing since quarantine started. Maybe you could try them out for yourself…you never know, you may even go viral!
Dalgona Greek Coffee
Now, if you haven’t at least heard of this, made it yourself or seen it online then I hate to say this but you’re probably living under a rock…(only joking). Having already tried this, I can assure you that it is actually really good coffee, it’s super easy to make, it’s fun to make, it looks cool, it’s really creamy and it’s honestly kind of mind blowing that you can make such good coffee so easily. Even if you don’t like coffee, just try to make this and it will change your whole view of coffee. I mean come on, you can’t deny how amazing this looks!
Let’s get into how you actually make this delicious coffee:
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of instant coffee (make sure it’s instant coffee or else it won’t work)
- 2 tablespoons of white sugar
- 2 tablespoons of hot water
- TIP : make sure that you don’t put any more or less water so that you can get the perfect consistency and make it look really whipped!
- Your choice of milk (I recommend almond milk!)
- Optional: ice cubes
How to make it:
- Simply stir the coffee, sugar and hot water with a hand whisk or a fork and stir well for 3-5 minutes until you get a creamy consistency.
- If you don’t get the perfect consistency the first time, don’t worry! It doesn’t work for everyone. If you try it again however, really try to get the quantities of the ingredients to the exact (2 tablespoons only — no more, no less)
- Place as many ice cubes as you want into a glass (or none! — up to you)
- Pour your chosen milk over the ice cubes, into the glass.
- Finally, gently pour the whipped coffee on top of the milk.
- Post it on TikTok! Share with your friends and fans the amazing coffee you just made.
For best results: after you’ve taken some pics, stir the whipped coffee into the milk so that it is all evenly mixed together!
Learn a new TikTok dance, duh!
Although TikTok is a very creative app, with lots of different types of videos, the dance videos are arguably the most popular ones. I’m sure you’ve heard of Charli D’Amelio, the most famed TikToker; only 15 years old, with over 47 million followers (crazy huh?). Maybe you’ve also heard of the Hype House, where all the famous TikTokers get together and make TikTok videos all day (really living the life). Even if you’re not so good at dancing, it might be worth it to learn one of the dances. Most of them are quite easy if you practice them enough. You don’t have to post them, it’s just a fun way to pass time!
How to find videos to dance to:
- What I like to do is go on to Charli D’Amelio’s page (@charlidamelio) and just watch her videos since they’re all mainly dancing videos, and then choose a dance that I like.
- Once you’ve chosen a dance you like, then watch it a few times, practice the dance and recreate it in your own style, however you like!
Tip: If you decide to post any TikToks, use hashtags to make your videos go viral. You can use hashtags like #foryoupage, #cambodia, #fyp, #quarantine, #coronavirus
Now, although I’ve only given two suggestions, once you download TikTok and start watching the videos on the foryoupage, you will most likely quickly start to find some videos which you like and some which you may even want to recreate. The best thing about TikTok is how creative it allows you to be, so take advantage of all the creative videos and show other people your own creative ideas. Also, just following the popular trends is fun enough in itself! You may be judgemental of TikTok for now, but trust me — it’s crazy fun!
